The essence of which is that all citizens of the country will get health insurance under the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that many families in the country already get coverage under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. If there are senior citizens aged 70 years and above in those families, they will get top-up coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh under this health insurance. In this case too, the income limit has been lifted.
How effective is Ayushman Bharat health insurance?
Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana or Ayushman Bharat health insurance was being received by 4.5 crore people of the country till now. Now 6 crore more people are coming under it. With the Ayushman Bharat health insurance card, senior citizens can now get cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in any hospital or nursing home in the country. Now, in many small families, children have to struggle to meet the medical expenses of elderly parents. Having this card can reduce the financial burden to some extent.
How can senior citizens get this health insurance card?
Any senior citizen of the country, if he is 70 years of age or above, will get health insurance up to Rs 5 lakh.

If a family is already covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, then the senior members of that family will get an additional health insurance of Rs 5 lakh
What if there is private health insurance?
This scheme of the center says that even if a family or a senior citizen has health insurance from a private organization, there is no problem. He will get the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme. If a senior citizen is covered under the Central Government Health Scheme, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme or Ayushman Central Armed Police Forces Scheme, they will have to choose any one. All senior citizens will get a separate health insurance card.
Who will pay for this health insurance coverage?
An additional cost of Rs 3,437 crore has been allocated for this scheme. The state government will pay 40 percent, the central government will pay the remaining 60 percent. In the case of hill states and states of North-East India, the center will pay 90 percent.
