Target to Reach One Crore Homes by 2026-27
The government has set an ambitious target for this scheme. By 2026-27, solar panels will be installed on the roofs of one crore homes across the country. Homes with installed solar systems will receive up to 300 units of free electricity every month. This will reduce dependence on electricity in both urban and rural areas and provide relief from problems like power cuts.

How Much Government Subsidy is Available on Solar Panels?
Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, the government provides a direct subsidy for installing solar panels. A maximum subsidy of up to βΉ78,000 is provided for rooftop solar systems up to 3 kW. For systems up to 2 kW, approximately βΉ30,000 in assistance is provided. After the solar panel installation, an application for the subsidy needs to be submitted on the National Rooftop Solar Portal. The subsidy amount is then transferred directly to the bank account within approximately one month.

Keep Necessary Documents Ready Before Applying
Some essential documents are required to apply for this scheme. These include Aadhaar card, recent electricity bill, proof of residence, bank account details, a photograph of the house’s rooftop, and the applicant’s passport-size photograph. All documents should be correct and up-to-date to avoid any interruptions in the application process.

Complete Online Application Process for PM Surya Ghar Scheme

The application process for the PM Surya Ghar scheme is entirely online. First, you need to visit the official website pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Here, go to the Consumer section and select the “Apply Now” option. The registration process then takes place through the consumer login, which requires entering the registered mobile number and completing OTP verification. After logging in, basic information such as name, email, and pin code needs to be filled in.Β Following this, the state, district, and electricity distribution company are selected, and the consumer account number is entered to apply for a solar rooftop system. Once all the details are fetched, the application can be finally submitted.
