Weather Update, May 24: North India—including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh—is currently experiencing a severe heatwave. For residents of Delhi and UP, stepping out of their homes during the afternoon has become extremely difficult. In light of the scorching heat, school timings have also been revised in several states. While most parts of the country are grappling with intense heat, heavy rainfall alerts have been issued for several states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry.

According to the latest bulletin from the Meteorological Department, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist across Central India, the Eastern Peninsular region, and North-Western India over the next seven days. Additionally, alerts for heavy rainfall have been issued for Kerala, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, North-Eastern India, and adjoining areas of Eastern India for the next 4 to 5 days.

Severe Heat Warnings for These States:-

– Heatwave conditions are likely in certain parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh between May 24 and May 29. There is also a possibility of severe heatwave conditions in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha.

– According to the Meteorological Department, heatwave conditions are likely in certain parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi between May 24 and May 29.

– There is a very high probability of heatwave conditions in certain parts of Rajasthan between May 24 and May 29; furthermore, severe heatwave conditions are also likely in specific areas of Western Rajasthan during this same period.

– Heatwave conditions may prevail in certain parts of Telangana between May 24 and May 26.

– There is a very high probability of heatwave conditions in specific areas of Western Jharkhand between May 24 and May 25; in Bihar on May 23 and 24; and in Chhattisgarh between May 24 and May 27.

– There is a very high probability of warm nights in certain parts of Interior Odisha between May 24 and May 27, as well as in Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, and Vidarbha on May 24.

Rainfall Warning for These States:-

– The Meteorological Department forecasts that on May 24 and 25, Assam and Meghalaya may experience rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.

– Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh during May 25–27; in Assam and Meghalaya on May 26; and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on May 24.

– Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, is likely in Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep during May 24–26.

– Scattered light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, is likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during May 24–26; ​​in North Interior Karnataka on May 26; and in Coastal Andhra Pradesh on May 25, 26, and 27.

– Rainfall accompanied by strong winds is forecast for North Interior Karnataka during May 24–25, and for Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on May 24.

– There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during May 24–26, and in Lakshadweep during May 24–27.

– Hailstorms are likely at isolated places in North Interior Karnataka on May 24 and 25, and in South Interior Karnataka on May 25.

– Light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in Jharkhand between May 26 and 29; in Bihar on May 24, 28, and 29; and in Odisha between May 24 and 27.

– According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the Nicobar Islands on May 24, and in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar on May 25 and 26.
