OG Tata Sierra vs New Sierra: There were some cars in the automobile world of the 90s that became an iconic identity, not just a means of transport. Tata Sierra was one of the same names. The New Tata Sierra 2025 is about to bring many modern engine options, which will strengthen the character of this SUV. Original Tata Sierra
Launched in 1991, the OG Sierra was considered a SUV far ahead of its time. But speaking of Engine Setup, it was quite straightforward. The OG Sierra was a fully Diesel-Only SUV and had two Engine options.
The first, 2.0-liter Naturally Aspirated Diesel Engine with Power just 63 hp. Tata later also delivered a 2.0-liter Turbo Diesel Engine, producing strengths of up to 91 hp.
Both Engines came with a 4-Cylinder Layout and were connected to a 5-Speed Manual Gearbox. Even though these were not powerful, their robustness and Torque Delivery were perfect for driving conditions of that round.

New Tata Sierra 2025
The new Sierra coming in 2025 is bringing a major change with its engine options. This time Sierra will hit the market not just with Diesel, but also with Petrol Engines. This change adds a new chapter to Tata’s SUV lineup.
The Petrol engine lineup will have two options. The first, 1.5-liter Naturally Aspirated Petrol Engine which is considered good enough for smooth city driving. Second, the 1.5-liter Turbo Petrol Engine, which can bring extra power and faster acceleration for Performance lovers. Both these engines will be ahead of OG Sierra’s old Diesel Setup in Refinement, Fuel Efficiency and Performance.

New Diesel Engine Options
Talk about Diesel Engines, then Tata Motors has decided to carry on the glorious Diesel legacy of Sierra. Two Modern Diesel Engines are expected to be delivered in the 2025 Sierra.
This 1.5-liter Diesel Engine that generates 118 hp and 260 Nm Torque. This is the best balance of Engine Power and Mileage.
The second option will be Tata’s 2.0-liter Kryotec Turbo Diesel Engine which will generate 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque. This is the same Engine Family who has shown their strength in Models like Harrier and Safari. Most importantly, both manual and automatic transmissions will be found in the new Sierra. Old Sierra never had an alternative to Automatic.

Original vs New Sierra
If both SUVs were to be compared in one line, it would not be wrong to say that Sierra’s Engine Setup has now completely changed from “Utility to Modern Lifestyle”. The old Sierra only came to the Diesel Engines which delivered power from 63 hp to 91 hp and was Purely Mechanical which was only present in the Manual Gearbox.
The same new Sierra 2025 Petrol + Diesel comes in both options, with Power up to around 170 hp and both Manual + Automatic options. Power, Refinement, Emission Standards, Efficiency The new Sierra in every aspect leaves the old Model several steps behind.
