New Delhi: The situation in Nepal, bordering India, has remained dire ever since Gen-Z youth turned their protests into violence. The situation in Nepal appears to be worsening once again. Tensions escalated on Wednesday when Gen-Z youth and workers of ousted Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s party, the CPN-UML, clashed.
There were scuffles and clashes between both sides. In light of the deteriorating situation, the administration has taken strict measures, imposing a complete curfew in the area. The Bara district administration stated that the curfew will remain in effect within a 500-meter radius of Simara Airport from 12:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Except for emergency services, everyone must remain inside. Violent elements venturing outside will face strict action.
Clash between Gen-Z protesters and workers at the airport
CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and youth leader Mahesh Basnet were scheduled to fly from Kathmandu to Simara from the airport. But then Gen-Z protesters gathered at the airport to protest. CPN-UML workers also opposed them, and clashes quickly broke out.
Seeing the deteriorating situation, the administration went on alert, using mild force to disperse the crowd. Flights carrying leaders were also cancelled, and troops were deployed. This included the flight carrying the two CPN-UML leaders. Due to the rising tension, both leaders returned. It should be noted that Gen-Z refers to young people born between 1997 and 2012.
