ADAS Technology : It comes under the category of futuristic cars where a driver is informed about any impending collision automatically brakes the vehicle and also gives steering support to keep the vehicle in lane. But, it has made a grand entry into India today, courtesy Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, or ADAS. This is 2025, and today the word ADAS does not only restrict itself to luxury cars. It has now trickled down to the popular mid-range cars and SUVs, and changed the way Indians live and move during daily commuting and long-distance travelling completely.
ADAS consists of intelligent safety features that all work together to prevent accidents and assist the driver in doing so: automatic emergency brake, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitor, and alerts for driver attention. The system will have sensors, cameras, and radar to sense the environment and react quickly in case the driver does not respond within time.
True to its name, ADAS proves boon for Indian-driving conditions marked with mixed traffic, bad roads, and unforeseen lane-changes. There are forward-collision warnings and automatic braking, which can help in avoiding really bad accidents because the car suddenly stops. Lane keep assists really help to maintain lane discipline while driving to reduce drifting especially on those long tiring days.
Today, most manufacturers are offering ADAS vehicles under ₹20 lakh, thus making technology available to so many buyers. Some examples include Mahindra XUV 3XO, Honda City e:HEV, MG Astor, and Hyundai Verna which all boast of level 1 and level 2 ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and high beam assistance. The features improve safety standards, but they also make the driving experience more convenient and effortless.
Besides having such features, ADAS also promotes good driving habits, tends to reduce the fatigue of the driver, and in some cases reduces the insurance premium. This will be a day with technology as a common site, as airbags or ABS when the road infrastructure keeps being perfecting and car manufacturers adapt the ADAS systems specific to India’s conditions.
