India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant on Thursday took to Instagram to apologise after the national team’s poor performance in the recent Test series and admitted that India did not play good cricket in the last two weeks and promised to come back stronger. The Rishabh Pant-led Indian team suffered a crushing 408-run defeat in the second Test against South Africa. The Indian team’s performance in the two-match Test series was disappointing. The team lost both the matches.
Rishabh Pant said sorry to everyone
Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant wrote, “There’s no denying that we haven’t played good cricket over the last two weeks. As a team and as individuals, we always want to perform at the highest level and bring smiles to the faces of billions of Indians. Sorry we didn’t live up to expectations this time, but sports teaches you to learn, adapt, and grow – as a team and as individuals.”
The message comes after India lost the home Test series to South Africa 2-0, a result that drew sharp criticism from fans and former players. India suffered two heavy defeats, including their biggest defeat by runs in Test history. “Representing India is the biggest honor of our lives. We know what this team is capable of, and we will work hard, regroup, refocus, and reset to come back stronger and better, both as a team and individually,” he said.
Reigning World Test Championship winners, South Africa defeated the Asian giants by 408 runs in the second and final Test in Guwahati, where Pant was India’s stand-in captain in the absence of Shubman Gill, who was ruled out due to neck spasms.
Biggest defeat in Test for India by runs
The defeat in Guwahati was India’s biggest loss in terms of runs in Test cricket. Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Pant failed to make an impact during the two-match Test series against South Africa. Pant scored just 49 runs in four innings at a poor average of 12.25.
