India A had to pay the price for their disappointing performance with bat and ball and were defeated by Bangladesh A in the Super Over in the semi-final of the Rising Stars Asia Cup on Friday. Bangladesh A scored 194 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the Indian team’s score was also equal due to which the match went into the Super Over.

India A took the strange decision of fielding captain Jitesh Sharma, Ashutosh Sharma and Ramandeep Singh in the Super Over while Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyansh Arya were in form and this decision surprised the cricket world.

Jitesh and Ashutosh were dismissed by fast bowler Ripon Mandal in the Super Over without a chance to open their account. Bangladesh lost Yasir Ali on the first ball, but leg-spinner Suyash Sharma bowled a wide on the next ball, securing Bangladesh’s victory. The look on Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s face after watching Team India lose was worth reading, clearly indicating that he felt a pang of regret, believing he would have tried to help India win the Super Over if he had the chance.

Why not Vaibhav Suryavanshi in Super Over?

India A captain Jitesh Sharma said, “It was a good game of cricket and a good learning experience for us. I will take all the responsibility. As a senior, I should finish the game. It’s about learning, not losing.”

Regarding Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Jitesh Sharma said, “Vaibhav and Priyansh are masters of the powerplay, but in the death overs, Ashu, Raman, and I are the ones who can hit at will. So, the lineup for the Super Over was a decision by the team and me.”
