Crores of people in the country depend on the Anna Yojana for their daily food. But this year, the central government has taken a big decision about ration cards. Many ration cards have been cancelled since July.

In the new guidelines issued on July 22, the Centre said that if a person does not take ration for 6 months in a row, their ration service will be stopped. After this, officials will do door-to-door verification, and people must update their e-KYC within three months. Only after updating KYC will they continue to get free ration under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. If the KYC is not updated, the ration will stop completely.

There are 23 crore ration cards in the country right now. Early reports say that 7 to 18 percent of these ration cards may get cancelled. Government sources said that more than 25 lakh ration cards have duplicate entries. Ration was also being taken in the names of people who have died. All such cards will be cancelled.
