For those who haven’t been able to pay their bills for a long time, this opportunity could prove very beneficial. The government is clearly stating that the sooner people take advantage of this scheme, the greater the benefits they will receive. Importantly, this scheme is applicable to all categories of consumers, including domestic, commercial, and industrial. Learn how to benefit from this scheme.

UP government launched electricity waiver scheme

The Uttar Pradesh government’s electricity waiver scheme will benefit millions of people in the state. The biggest benefit of this scheme is that the entire interest charged on consumers’ outstanding bills will be waived. This means that the interest that has been accruing over the years will be completely waived. Additionally, a discount of up to 25 percent will be provided on the original bill amount. This discount will be provided in three phases, with the greatest benefit in the first phase. The first phase, which runs from December 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, will provide up to 25 percent relief.

This will be followed by a 20 percent discount in the second phase, from January 1st to January 31st, 2026. The final third phase, which will run from February 1st to February 28th, 2026, will offer consumers a 10 percent discount. Officials say that since discounts will decrease in subsequent phases, consumers should try to pay in the first phase. The plan aims to reduce the burden of outstanding dues on consumers and accelerate revenue collection for the electricity department.

How will you get the benefit?

To take advantage of the scheme, consumers must visit their nearest electricity subdivision office or bill counter to obtain their outstanding balance. They will be informed of the total outstanding balance, the interest charged, and the amount they will have to pay after the rebate is applied.

Upon payment within the stipulated timeframe, interest will automatically be removed from the bill, and a fixed percentage discount will be added to the principal amount. The Electricity Department has clearly stated that this relief will only be available to consumers whose outstanding balance is registered in their name. Therefore, consumers are advised to make payments in the first phase of the scheme to maximize their benefits.
