Monsoon Update: The country is currently experiencing a severe cold wave. The new year is expected to begin with cold weather and heavy rainfall. The IMD (India Meteorological Department) has forecast rain across several parts of the country ahead of the new year. The rainfall will reduce the maximum temperature by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. In addition, the Meteorological Department has issued a dense fog alert for more than 15 major cities. The India Meteorological Department has predicted snowfall in the hilly states and rain in some parts of Northwest India. People in several states, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, are facing dense fog. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of a cold wave continuing in some parts of Odisha until December 31st.
The IMD stated on Tuesday that light to moderate rainfall is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and West Rajasthan on December 30th. Light rain or snowfall is also likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from December 30th to January 2nd.

IMD Alert: Rain in These States
According to the IMD, five states in North India may experience rainfall on December 31st, with warnings issued for Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Haryana. After the rain, the temperature in these states may drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius, further intensifying the cold. According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall is expected in several parts of Tamil Nadu for the next three days.
Where will fog prevail?
The Meteorological Department predicts that very dense fog may prevail during the morning and evening hours in parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab until December 31st. It may also be seen in East Uttar Pradesh on January 1st, and in Odisha from December 31st to January 2nd. Additionally, dense fog may trouble people in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh until January 5th. Thick fog is also expected in Odisha until January 3rd, in Gangetic West Bengal from December 31st to January 3rd, and in Jharkhand until December 31st. The Meteorological Department has forecast a cold day in West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh on December 30.

Rain expected in Tamil Nadu.
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall is expected in several parts of Tamil Nadu for the next three days. The districts likely to receive rain include Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, and Pudukkottai districts. A special warning has been issued for fishermen, and they have been advised against venturing into the sea.
Weather forecast for Bihar
The weather in Bihar is expected to deteriorate from December 30. A dense fog alert has been issued for Patna, East Champaran, West Champaran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Chhapra, and Jehanabad.
