Ahead of the five-match T20I series between India and Australia, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has provided a major update on Shreyas Iyer’s injury. Although Iyer is not part of the T20 squad, the Indian team has been in constant contact with him and the team doctor in Sydney while in Canberra. The 30-year-old Iyer is now stable and has been released from the ICU, bringing relief to both the team and fans regarding his health. Shreyas Iyer suffered a rib injury while taking a catch in the last ODI match. After this, he was taken to the hospital because his condition was not good in the dressing room.

Suryakumar Yadav informed about Shreyas Iyer’s injury update

Suryakumar Yadav told in the press conference about Shreyas Iyer, “We have spoken to him. When we came to know on the first day that he was injured, I called him first. Then I came to know that he does not have a phone. Then I called my physio Kamlesh Jain. He told that he is stable. I cannot tell how on the first day, but now he is fine. We have been talking for two days now. He is responding. If he is replying on the phone, it means he is stable. The doctor is also there with him, so it is a good thing. He is talking. It means everything is fine.”

Surya further said, “It has been said that he will be kept under close observation for a few more days. They talk to everyone, which is a good thing. And secondly, we are not doctors, so just by looking from outside, it seems to us that when he took the catch, it seemed normal, but none of us were there, only those who were there can tell. What they told us was that after going inside, it felt a little as if the injury would need attention. After this, he was taken to a specialist and then they told that this is what has happened.”

The T20 team captain said that after that when we talked to him and when he started talking normally, then it seemed that he is a little better now, because the doctors and physios told us that whatever happened was unlucky. This never happens. It is very rare, but Shreyas is also rare. Sometimes rare happens with rare talent, but it is okay, God supported him. Everything is fine now. All the doctors are supporting him. BCCI is giving full support. He will recover soon and then we will take him home with us.”
