The process for applying for a driving license has become less cumbersome. Now, you don’t need to go to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to apply for a two-wheeler or four-wheeler license, nor will you be required to wait in long lines.

Authorities have recently made these significant modifications in the regulations for obtaining a driving license. The new regulations allow you to apply for a driving license without the need to go to the RTO office. How to obtain a new driving license? Check below:

Driving License Rules: What is New

From July 1, 2022, only private driving training centers will be allowed to operate with approval from the state or the central government. These training centers will be valid for five years. This government decision may boost the business of driving training centers.

Under the new rules, you do not need to go to the RTO office to take the test. You can get a driving license by taking the test at a private training center. These centers must renew their licenses every five years. To get approval, training centers must follow some rules:

A minimum of 1 acre of land is required for two-wheeler and four-wheeler training centers. 2 acres are needed for heavy vehicle training.

  • The center should have a simulator and a test track.
  • Trainers must have at least a high school diploma and 5 years of driving experience.
  • The center must have a biometric system.
  • Track tests should follow Transport Department rules.
  • Passenger vehicle training: minimum 29 hours in 4 weeks (8 hours theory + 21 hours practical).
  • Heavy vehicle training: minimum 38 hours in 6 weeks (8 hours theory + 31 hours practical).

These rules were made because road accidents are increasing, and India needs more qualified drivers. The new driving license rules aim to simplify training and create a safe, effective driving education system.
