Bonus Hike – Good news for state government employees. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday announced up to 20 per cent bonus and incentive (ex gratia) to ‘C’ and ‘D’ category employees working in public sector enterprises in the state. According to the official press release, under the Tamil Nadu Government Bonus Amendment Act, 2015, the salary limit for an employee to get bonus is Rs 21,000 and the monthly salary limit for bonus calculation is Rs 7,000.

However, these limits will be relaxed when announcing bonuses and incentives for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Eligible employees working in profit-making state government public sector enterprises (PSUs) will receive an 8.33 percent bonus and an 11.67 percent ex-gratia. These enterprises include the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, and the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.

Eligible employees of enterprises that do not have surpluses, including the Tamil Nadu Housing Board and the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, will receive an 8.33 percent bonus and 1.67 percent ex gratia. Additionally, eligible employees of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board will receive an 8.33 percent bonus, while temporary employees of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation will receive an ex-gratia of Rs 3,000.

According to a state government release, a total of Rs 376.01 crore will be distributed to 269,439 employees in the form of bonus and ex-gratia. The state government said that this decision was taken with the aim of recognizing the hard work of the employees and the profits of the enterprises.
