PAN Card – Big news for PAN Card holders. If you’re planning to apply for a PAN card, be aware that your Aadhaar card has now become a mandatory document. This means anyone applying for a PAN card must have one. This rule came into effect on July 1st. Furthermore, your mobile number must also be linked to your Aadhaar number. This is because you’ll need to verify your identity using Aadhaar when applying for a PAN card. Let’s understand this change in detail.
What changed?
Until now, having an Aadhaar card didn’t matter when applying for a PAN card. You could still get one even without one. Now, effective July 1st, this rule has changed. It will now be mandatory for anyone to have an Aadhaar card before applying for one. Otherwise, the PAN card will not be issued, and government work related to the PAN card will also be disrupted.
Get your PAN and Aadhaar linked by December 31st
It’s worth noting that the government has also made it mandatory to link your PAN card and Aadhaar card. This means that even if you already have a PAN card but don’t have an Aadhaar card, you can’t rest assured. In fact, anyone who doesn’t link their PAN and Aadhaar by December 31, 2025, will have their PAN card revoked. The government is taking this step to prevent tax evasion and bring transparency to financial transactions.
How to link PAN and Aadhaar
If you have PAN and Aadhaar cards but they are not linked, then:
1 First of all go to the tax e-filing website.
2 Here you will get the option of Link Aadhaar, click on it.
3 Now you will be asked for the numbers of both PAN and Aadhaar, enter it.
4 After this enter the mobile number which you have given at the time of registration of both.
5 Then click OK on I agree to validate my Aadhaar details with UIDAI.
6 Finally, the message of Pan Has Been Linked Successfully will appear on your screen.
