During this worship, the Vat tree is circumambulated and Kalawa is wrapped. After this, one should read or listen to the fasting story of Savitri and Satyavan. In the end, one should give donations to the needy and then break this fast.

Two bamboo baskets are prepared to perform this puja. The first basket should contain seven types of grains, which should be covered with a cloth. The second basket should contain an idol or picture of Goddess Savitri. The pooja samagri includes incense, Diya, rice, kumkum, roli, mauli, and flowers.
