New Delhi: India’s power in the skies is set to increase once again. The Indian government is moving forward with a major deal with France to enhance the capabilities of its air force. The Modi government may soon purchase 114 Rafale fighter jets from France.
According to sources, the Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, may meet in the coming days to consider giving its Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to the proposal. This will not only strengthen India’s capabilities but also deliver a significant blow to the intentions of China and Pakistan.
This move comes just before French President Emmanuel Macron visited India. He is scheduled to visit India at the end of this month for the AI Summit. India is rapidly moving forward with the acquisition of 114 Rafale fighter jets from France to strengthen its air force’s combat capabilities.
Make in India Mission to be Expanded
The Rafale deal will significantly boost the Indian Air Force’s capabilities. Under this mega deal, 18 of the 114 Rafale aircraft will be delivered in a ‘fly-away’ condition from France. The remaining aircraft will be manufactured in India.
According to the government’s plan, approximately 80 per cent of the fighter jets will be manufactured domestically. These will incorporate up to 60 per cent indigenous content.
