The airline’s plane 5342 collided with the US Army’s Black Hawk helicopter while landing at Reagan National Airport. After this accident, all takeoffs and landings from the airport have been stopped. According to a BNO News report, 64 people were on the American Airlines passenger plane, and three were on the army helicopter.

An American Airlines passenger plane collided with a helicopter mid-air on Thursday, following which both the planes fell into the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. According to media reports, rescue teams have so far recovered 19 bodies from the Potomac River. However, official confirmation of the deaths is awaited.

The plane reportedly had 64 people on board, including passengers and crew members, while three people boarded the helicopter at the time of the accident.

The FAA confirmed that DC Fire and EMS said on social media that fireboats were deployed at the scene. The FAA explained that this PSA Airlines flight took off from Kansas.
