New Delhi: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), considered the richest municipal body in the country, will now be completely under the control of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP has selected its candidate for the mayor’s post. Ritu Tawade, who was recently elected as a senior corporator from Ghatkopar, will be the Mayor of the Mumbai BMC.

The BJP has officially announced her name for the mayoral position. The Deputy Mayor will be chosen from Eknath Shinde’s party. Committee leader Amit Satam stated that her name was finalised after discussions with the top leadership. Tawade has won the corporator election from Ghatkopar three times.

She has been very active at the organisational level and has considerable experience. She has also served as the chairperson of the Education Committee. The party hopes that her experience will further strengthen the BMC’s administration. This decision by the BJP, under the Mahayuti alliance, is also seen as a strategy to consolidate its hold on the mayor’s post.

Shinde faction of Shiv Sena to get Deputy Mayor post

For the first time, a BJP mayor will occupy the chair in the Mumbai BMC, and the formal announcement of the name has been made. On the other hand, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction is still vying for the Deputy Mayor’s post. Dahisar corporator Sanjay Ghadi will file his nomination for this position. He is expected to accelerate the administrative functioning of the BMC during his approximately 1.25-year tenure.
