Islamabad Bomb Blast Update: A suicide attack occurred at a Shia mosque in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, during Friday prayers. At least 31 people have been killed and more than 169 injured in the attack. The attack took place in the afternoon when approximately 700 people were present in the mosque complex for Friday prayers, and the entire Imam Bargah (prayer hall) was packed.
During this time, a suicide bomber detonated, affecting hundreds of people. The incident has caused widespread panic. An emergency was declared in Islamabad immediately after the blast. Police, rescue, and forensic teams arrived at the scene, sealed off the area, and began investigations.
According to police officials, it is not yet clear whether the explosion was entirely a suicide attack or part of a larger conspiracy. The situation will become clearer after the forensic investigation.
The mosque and the Imam Bargah building were also damaged in the blast. Video footage from the scene shows that the gate structure suffered significant damage. Debris from the gate and surrounding buildings was scattered on the road after the explosion.
Investigation into the blast continues: Police
Islamabad Capital Territory Police spokesperson Taqi Jawad stated that it is too early to determine the nature of the blast. They are investigating the matter, but there are clear indications that a suicide bomber detonated himself inside the mosque.
It is worth noting that a similar blast occurred on November 11, 2025, outside the District and Sessions Court complex in the G-11 area of Islamabad, killing 12 people and injuring more than 30.
Islamabad police said the explosion at the large mosque was an attack, and an investigation is currently underway. Rescue teams and eyewitnesses reported that some of the injured are in critical condition. Television footage and social media images showed police and locals carrying the injured to nearby hospitals.
