Effects of Cyclone Fengal began to be felt, heavy rainfall warnings, schools are closed

The storm conditions have been caused by the severe depression over the Bay of Bengal. The IMD has issued a warning of an approaching storm. In certain areas of Tamil Nadu, the full force of the Fengal storm can be seen, resulting in the issuance of a red alert. The storm is currently heading in a north-northwest direction at a velocity of 3 kilometers per hour. All government schools in Puducherry and Karaikal will be closed, as per the announcement by the state government.

Effects of storm on November 28

The Meteorological Department has announced a two-day alert for heavy rain due to the Fengal storm. It is probable that it will shift towards the coast of Tamil Nadu surrounding the coast of Sri Lanka on November 28 and 29. Heavy rainfall will be experienced in cities like Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu.

Schools are closed today for a holiday

Due to the deteriorating weather conditions, the state government has directed for the shutdown of both public and private schools in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, and Ariyalur on November 28. Additionally, inhabitants have been cautioned to stay alert and leave their homes only if it is absolutely required. The Meteorological Department advises to stay home as often as you can and avoid leaving the house unnecessarily.

In which regions is the storm’s impact felt?

Tamil Nadu has experienced extremely high rainfall over the past 48 hours, leading to flooding in multiple regions. The storm is causing tall waves to form in the ocean. Simultaneously, there are powerful winds blowing in numerous coastal regions. Additionally, the effects of the storm can be seen in Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
