Against a massive 1st innings scored of South Africa, India started their batting with composure on Day 3 with their openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. In the process, Jaiswal smashed another Test half-century and cemented his record in the format yet again. In a perticular record list, the young Indian batter is currently ahead of England star Joe Root.
In the Guwahati Test match, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the 13th half-century of his Test career and created a special record. Jaiswal has become the batsman with the most 50+ scores in Test cricket since July 2023. Jaiswal has achieved the feat of scoring 50+ scores 20 times in his Test career so far. Meanwhile, Joe Root has played 46 innings and has managed to score 50+ scores 17 times in Test cricket during this time.
Additionally, Jaiswal is the second batsman in the world to score the most 50+ scores as an opener in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) and the first from India. Dimuth Karunaratne holds the record for most 50+ scores as an opener in the World Test Championship (WTC), having achieved this feat 21 times. Ramnaresh Sarwan is second in this list, having scored 50+ scores 25 times in his Test career by the age of 23. Alastair Cook achieved this feat 23 times, while Javed Miandad did it 22 times. New Zealand’s Kane Williamson scored 50+ scores 20 times by the age of 23.
