After posting a 178-run opening partnership against Australia in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday. They would have been forgiven for reminiscing another intriguing subplot to their performance that came up over the last couple of months regarding their retirement.

It was a big partnership at a time when many were writing them off and calling for them to be dropped. After India chased down Australia’s 263 – winning by nine wickets with 69 balls left – neither player added to any calls for retirement. Rohit scored his 33rd ODI century, which was unbeaten 121 off 125 balls, while Kohli added an unbeaten 74 runs off 81 with no 2 and 0 in his first two ODIs.

Following the match, Gilchrist wished Rohit and Kohli the best for the 2027 World Cup as they stated this would probably be the last time they played in Australia. Kohli thanked the Australian fans for their support and consistent support over the years.
