Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both senior most players of the team are in top form. Ahead of the World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have to take some strong decisions about their future. It is believed that in the upcoming meeting, the board officials can upload multiple topics related to Rohit and Virat like their salaries and central contract.

BCCI to decrease salaries of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli?

The 31st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Apex Council will be held immediately after the ongoing five-match T20 series between India and South Africa. The meeting will be held online on December 22, 2025, at 7 pm, where crucial discussions are likely to take place on the central contracts of former captain Rohit Sharma and legendary batsman Virat Kohli.

It is believed that both veterans will be demoted despite their impressive performances. Rohit and Kohli have retired from Test and T20 international cricket, and now play only in the ODI format. Therefore, their performance and limited format will not result in them being retained in the A-Plus category.

A major highlight will be the promotion of Indian ODI and Test team captain Shubman Gill. Currently in the A category, Gill could be moved to the A+ category, where he will join senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Gill recently led the team in the Test series against England, won the Asia Cup, and has had successful captaincy.

If Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are demoted and placed in Category A, their annual salaries will be reduced by ₹2 crore (approximately $1.5 million). Currently, the central salaries are ₹7 crore (A+), ₹5 crore (A), ₹3 crore (B), and ₹1 crore (C).
