The political stature—and indeed, the credibility—of several prominent figures, including a few incumbent Chief Ministers, hangs in the balance. The eyes of most citizens across the country are fixed firmly on the results from West Bengal. Here, the contest is widely perceived as a direct face-off between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. Exit polls have projected that the BJP is poised to form the government. However, Mamata Banerjee, too, remains confident, claiming that her party will secure over 200 seats.

“I Do Not Trust Exit Polls”: Waris Pathan

By around noon, the picture regarding who will emerge victorious in the assembly elections across these five states is expected to become clear. Counting is set to begin at 8:00 AM. Speaking on the occasion, AIMIM leader Waris Pathan stated, “The Constitution has granted the people the right to vote. The people have exercised their franchise with full vigour. The election results for these five states are being declared today. The public has cast its vote. I, personally, do not place my trust in exit polls.”

DMK Alliance Will Win in Tamil Nadu”: Congress In-charge

In Tamil Nadu as well, the vote-counting process is scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM. Girish Chodankar, the AICC In-charge for Tamil Nadu, remarked, “We are absolutely confident that our DMK-led alliance will form the government and create history in Tamil Nadu. We have full faith that we will make a comeback to power.”

Mamata Banerjee Alerts Party Workers

Just ahead of the vote counting, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a directive to her party workers, urging them to remain vigilant. Mamata Banerjee appealed to party cadres to stay alert and to keep a watchful eye throughout the night. During this appeal, she claimed to have received reports from several locations regarding deliberate power outages. Such incidents have come to light in Serampore (Hooghly), Krishnanagar (Nadia), Ausgram (Bardhaman), and the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra (Kolkata).
