Led by industrialists Lakshmi Niwas Mittal and Aditya Mittal, the Mittal family has sealed an agreement—in partnership with Adar Poonawalla—to acquire the Rajasthan Royals. The value of this deal is estimated to be approximately US$ 1.65 billion (roughly ₹15,660 crore). This acquisition encompasses not only the IPL team but also the Paarl Royals from South Africa and the Barbados Royals from the Caribbean Premier League.

What Stake Will the Mittal Family Hold?

Upon the completion of the Rajasthan Royals deal, the Mittal family will hold a stake of approximately 75 per cent. Adar Poonawalla will retain a stake of around 18 per cent. The remaining stake—approximately per cent—will remain with the existing investors, including Manoj Badale.

Badale will continue to be associated with the team and will play a pivotal role within the franchise. Furthermore, following the conclusion of the deal, Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, Aditya Mittal, Vanisha Mittal Bhatia, Adar Poonawalla, and Manoj Badale are set to join the Board of Directors of the Rajasthan Royals.

Lakshmi Mittal Makes a Significant Statement

Speaking on this occasion, Lakshmi Mittal made a noteworthy statement. He remarked that he shares a deep connection with Rajasthan and that cricket holds a very special place in his heart. Consequently, he noted that there could be no better team to acquire than the Rajasthan Royals. Describing the IPL as one of the world’s largest sports leagues, Aditya Mittal expressed his immense excitement at becoming a part of this team.

Adar Poonawalla also expressed his delight regarding this investment, stating that the Rajasthan Royals is a franchise with a strong legacy—one to which he looks forward to contributing in order to help take it forward.
