Will Tilak Varma play in India vs New Zealand series?

Indian batsman Tilak Varma has undergone surgery for a groin problem that was causing him severe pain and has now been ruled out of the upcoming T20 International series against New Zealand. Besides, there are serious doubts about his participation in the first few matches of the T20 World Cup next month.

23-year-old Tilak Varma was immediately rushed to the hospital after complaining of severe pain in Rajkot, where he is with the Hyderabad team for the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy One Day Championship. The five-match T20 series against New Zealand will begin on January 21 in Nagpur.

“Tilak Verma complained of severe pain in his testicles in Rajkot, where he is part of the Hyderabad team for the Vijay Hazare tournament. He was taken to Gokul Hospital and a scan revealed testicular torsion (sudden, sharp pain) and immediate surgery was advised,” a BCCI official told PTI.

“We consulted our specialist, who agreed. Tilak’s surgery was successful and he is now doing well. “We will update you as soon as we have more information about his recovery and potential return to play, after discussions with the medical panel,” he added.

It is also reported that Verma will definitely be out of the series against New Zealand. The World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, begins on February 7th, with India playing their first match against the USA in Mumbai. The co-hosts will play their next match against Namibia in Delhi on February 12th.
