According to reports, Shreyas Iyer is set to make a comeback to the team and could potentially be named captain. The 31-year-old Iyer played his last T20 International match on December 3, 2023. It has been over two years since he last played a T20 International match.

Suryakumar to Remain in the Squad as a Player

Suryakumar Yadav has led India effectively at the T20 level. India recently clinched the T20 World Cup title under its leadership. Keeping this in mind, he will not be dropped from the team entirely. The selectors may choose a new captain following the 2026 IPL season. India is scheduled to play two T20 matches in Ireland, followed by a five-match T20 series against England. Surya will be selected for the squad as a player.
