Marking Scheme
Paper 1 of the Prelims exam consists of 100 questions. 2 marks are awarded for each correct answer. 1/3 (0.33) marks are deducted for each incorrect answer. Additionally, Paper 2 consists of 80 questions. Each correct answer carries 2.5 marks. An incorrect answer in Paper 2 will result in a 1/3 (0.83) mark deduction.

Every year, after the exam, UPSC candidates worry about how many of their answers were correct and how many were incorrect. During this time, students relied on unofficial answer keys released by coaching institutes to estimate their scores, which often contained many errors.
