India ‘A’ captain Rishabh Pant allayed injury concerns as he returned to bat after retiring hurt on the third day of the four-day match against South Africa ‘A’ on Saturday. Pant was taken off the field as a precautionary measure after being hit thrice by South African pacer Tshepo Moraki in the dying moments of the day’s opening session at the Board of Control for Cricket in India Centre of Excellence (COE) ground.
Rishabh Pant again retired hurt
Pant was batting on 17 off 22 balls when he retired hurt. Dhruv Jurel came on as his replacement. He was later seen with a bandage on his left hand. Pant, who scored 24 in the first innings, has been included in the Indian team for the two-match Test series against South Africa starting November 14. However, he allayed injury concerns by returning to the crease after Harsh Dubey’s dismissal.
Earlier, a team official told PTI, “The team physio is monitoring him and he can come back to bat if needed.” Pant was hit on the helmet by a Moraki delivery while attempting a reverse pull. He then injured his elbow while attempting a normal pull shot. The Indian wicketkeeper was then struck on the stomach by the ball, causing him to cry out in pain.

He had to seek medical attention on all three occasions. India ‘A’ coach Rishikesh Kanitkar finally asked Pant to return, even though he wanted to continue batting. Pant, who scored 24 in the first innings, has been included in the Indian team for the two-match Test series against South Africa starting November 14.
