PF withdrawal: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is working on making the PF withdrawal process easier for its vast number of members. With the new plan, employees will have the ability to withdraw money directly from their PF accounts, similar to using an ATM. This change could significantly reduce the waiting time for claim settlements.
However, remember that your PF is meant for retirement savings, so it’s best to withdraw only in urgent situations. Frequent withdrawals may diminish the considerable amount you will have at retirement. If this new rule is put into effect soon, accessing your PF will be much simpler.
When can the PF ATM facility begin?
The central government and the EPFO have previously suggested that ATM-like options for PF withdrawals might be rolled out gradually by 2026. While an official start date hasn’t been confirmed yet, the EPFO is actively enhancing the technical and banking systems to support this service.
What is the PF ATM facility?
This facility will allow EPFO members to withdraw a portion of their PF account balance via ATMs or digital platforms. The aim is to ensure quick access to funds for employees during emergencies.
Who can benefit from this?
To take advantage of this facility, the employee’s UAN must be active, their Aadhaar card must be linked, their bank account must be connected with EPFO, and KYC must be fully completed.
Current rules for PF withdrawals
As per EPFO regulations, members can withdraw PF funds under specific conditions, such as job loss, retirement, purchasing or constructing a home, marriage or children’s education, treatment for serious illnesses, and other emergencies.
Process to withdraw PF from ATM
When this facility is launched, employees may receive an ATM card or digital access. The PF withdrawal process will then be as follows:
1. Insert your card into the ATM or log in digitally.
2. Verify your identity with your PIN/OTP.
3. Select the PF withdrawal option.
4. Enter the withdrawal amount.
5. Complete the transaction and receive the money.
How can you withdraw PF now?
Currently, PF withdrawals require the EPFO portal or the UMANG app. Once the claim is approved online, the funds are transferred directly to the bank account. With the new facility in place, employees will no longer have to wait days to withdraw funds. They will be able to access their PF funds quickly when needed.
