While Samsung has weeks until it announces its newest foldables, they’re already buzzing due to multiple certification lists, supply chain leaks, anddummy units confirming that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and the Galaxy Z Flip 8are about to bring significant changes, the biggest surprise of which will be a brand new take on the flagship Fold’s design. Critics haven’t been kind about the tall, skinny outer screen on previous Galaxy Folds, and Samsung finally appears to be making that outward change into a much more usable form factor that should revolutionize the user experience.
Samsung Is Finally Changing the Fold Design
One of the largest complaints on the previous Galaxy Folds has always been that there’s just too little width on the outer display. The new reports indicate that Samsung is changing all that with the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The Fold 8 is going to pack a 4:3-style outer display that’s much more spacious when unfolded, offering an experience that will be as close to a compact tablet as a phone can get. Based onDummy units, the new Fold 8 will be shorter, wider, and more pocket-friendly. The keyboard typing on the external display should feel significantly more comfortable, making day-to-day interactions much more pleasant.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra Is Top-Tier
Samsung appears to be changing the naming structure in a major way this year. We’ll see the new, wider foldable released as the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the traditional, narrower model released as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. This new model should bring higher-end camera tech, an even bigger battery, and other premium features to the Fold lineup, making it appealing for the power-hungry power users out there.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 Boasts Refined Design
Samsung’s clamshell foldable will see upgrades as well. We’re hearing rumors that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will feature an improved hinge to reduce creasing. The biggest competition in the foldable space is constantly advancing in reducing the visible display creasing, and this appears to be Samsung’s answer. It’s an improvement that will still pack the traditional, small flip phone factor, but this Fold should be more pleasant to open and close with a more premium feel than ever before.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Powers All
In the realm of processing power, there will be no compromises across the foldable lineup this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 all reportedly will be packing Qualcomm’s new flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, which should bring much-improved performance to everything from gaming to multitasking and offer much better AI performance than any Samsung foldable yet.
Bigger Batteries and Faster Charging
Battery size has long been an issue on many foldables, but Samsung looks like it might be going big for the next generation. Rumors indicate the Z Fold 8 Ultra might sport a 5,000 mAh battery while the standard Z Fold 8 will have 4,800 mAh and both will support 45W charging, bringing charge times down to a much more acceptable range. The Z Flip 8 is said to get a bumped up 4,300 mAh battery to increase longevity.
Camera Changes
Samsung appears to be separating the foldable models’ cameras more than ever this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will reportedly get a dual 50MP main/ultrawide lens system. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra should get an upgraded camera system to match some of the best Samsung has to offer on a standard slab phone, likely a 200MP main sensor, 50MP ultrawide, and periscope telephoto lens.
Samsung May Remove Some Premium Features
However, the report does indicate that Samsung is stripping out a few premium features on the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 in order to bring the device’s thickness and price point down to a more mainstream market. This could mean a lack of S Pen digitizer support on the standard Fold, along with a less impressive camera setup to further differentiate the Ultra model and keep costs down.
New Galaxy Buds
In some unexpected news, the report also revealed a device under the model number SM-U600 which, sources believe, will be named the Galaxy Buds Able. Unlike other Samsung wireless earbuds, this appears to be an open-ear, ambient hearing style device designed for everyday, comfortable listening. It would be a new category of product from Samsung if this is indeed true.
Expected Launch Timeline
All this is expected to arrive on July 22, 2026 at a Galaxy Unpacked event. Production is already said to be ongoing for the phones, so it looks like the company is targeting a global release that day. If all these reports hold true, we’ll be looking at a revolutionary upgrade for the Samsung foldable line.
