Indian cricket’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has set a new milestone at the end of 2025. He has achieved a milestone that no other Indian pacer has ever reached. While 2025 may not have been entirely as expected for him in terms of individual and team performance, he has made no stone unturned in making history in the ICC Test rankings.
Take a look on the latest ICC Test bowling rankings
According to the latest ICC Test bowling rankings, Bumrah finished 2025 as the No. 1 bowler. This made him the first Indian fast bowler to hold the top spot for two consecutive years. He had previously finished 2024 as the world’s No. 1 Test bowler.

Before Bumrah, only R Ashwin held this distinction. The veteran spinner finished the year at the top of the Test bowler rankings for two consecutive years in 2015 and 2016. He also held the No. 1 spot in 2023. Legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi also held the top spot in the Test bowler rankings until the end of 1973. However, both Ashwin and Bedi are spin bowlers. Consequently, Bumrah is the first Indian fast bowler to hold the top spot in the Test rankings for two consecutive years.
In terms of statistics, Jasprit Bumrah took 31 wickets in 14 innings of 8 Test matches in 2025 at an impressive average of 22.16. During this period, he also took three five-wicket hauls, which demonstrates his world-class bowling abilities. Being ranked as the world’s best Test bowler for two consecutive years not only reflects Bumrah’s ability but also the growing stature of Indian fast bowling.

While Jasprit Bumrah tops the ICC Test rankings with a rating of 879, he doesn’t even feature among the top 100 bowlers in the ODI rankings. This is due to Bumrah’s lack of ODI appearances. He hasn’t played an ODI in two years.
His last ODI was the World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad, where Australia defeated India to win the title. In the T20I bowler rankings, Bumrah is ranked 18th.
