Will Shubman Gill play in India vs South Africa ODI series?
Shubman Gill is currently the captain of India’s Test and ODI teams. Gill suffered a neck injury in the first Test match against South Africa, ruling him out of that match. It is now believed that Shubman will miss the second Test as well. However, an official announcement regarding this is still pending. The severity of Gill’s injury is unknown, but the BCCI is unwilling to take any risks with Gill.
Team India will be announced soon for the ODI series
The Test series will be followed by an ODI series, but the team for that series has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, it is believed that the squad will be announced on the evening of November 23rd. It is likely that Gill may be left out of that series as well. The BCCI has a long-term approach to Shubman Gill, so playing an unfit Gill could be risky. If Gill does not play in the ODI series, the BCCI will also have to appoint a new captain for that series.
Who will be the captain of Gill remain out of playing?
India has two veteran players in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who will be seen playing in the ODI series. However, it is unlikely that the BCCI will consider giving them the captaincy again. Shreyas Iyer was the vice-captain in the last ODI series, but he too was injured. It is not yet certain whether Shreyas will be able to play in the ODI series against South Africa. In such a situation, the BCCI has two options: KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. It is expected that if Gill is ruled out of the series, one of these two could be given the captaincy responsibility. For this, we should wait until November 23rd.
