Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the BCCI implemented strict rules for foreign players to protect franchises and maintain the league’s credibility. The first rule is that every foreign player must register for the mega auction. Failure to register will also result in exclusion from the following year’s mini auction. The second rule is that a player who withdraws from the auction before the start of the season, other than for injury or medical reasons, will be barred from both the auction and the tournament for two seasons.
3 players who will not be the part of IPL 2026 and IPL 2026 mini auction:
Ben Stokes
England’s Test captain and explosive all-rounder Ben Stokes did not register for the 2025 mega auction. He stated that he wanted to manage his workload to maintain fitness and prolong his England career. He also opted out of the IPL in 2024. As a result: he will not be able to participate in the 2026 mini auction, thereby missing a significant portion of the IPL cycle (2025-27).
Harry Brook
England’s white-ball captain and middle-order batsman Harry Brook withdrew from the IPL in 2024 due to the death of his grandmother. He was bought by the Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore in the 2025 mega auction, but he withdrew again, prioritizing his England career.

This was his second consecutive withdrawal, so under the new rules, he is barred from the 2026 auction. This is a major blow to the Delhi Capitals, who were eyeing Brook for a key overseas slot.
Jason Roy
England’s explosive opener Jason Roy left the IPL in 2024 due to personal reasons. He was not included in the 2025 mega auction, which resulted in him being ruled out of the 2026 mini auction. Roy has previously represented KKR in the IPL. Roy’s absence will force the franchise to find new options for the opening slot, as he is renowned for his explosive batting.
