Renault Duster Hybrid: Following the arrival of the new-generation Renault Duster in India, the company is now preparing to launch its hybrid version. The Duster Hybrid is scheduled for launch in India on October 17, 2026. This SUV will feature a strong hybrid powertrain, aiming to further strengthen the Duster lineup. The Renault Duster Hybrid will be equipped with a 1,789 cc petrol engine, a 49 hp electric motor, and a 1.4 kWh battery.
With a power output of 160 hp, the SUV will compete against models like the Grand Vitara and Hyryder. Notably, the hybrid version will go head-to-head with strong hybrid SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. Let’s look at the details.
Strong Hybrid Setup
The new Renault Duster Hybrid will use a 1,789cc naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. It is paired with a 49 hp traction motor and a 20 hp starter-generator. The combined output of this entire hybrid setup is 160 hp and 172 Nm.
Automatic Transmission
The Duster Hybrid features a multi-mode automatic transmission to deliver power to the front wheels. This system can utilise the electric motor, the petrol engine, or both, depending on driving conditions. The SUV can switch its power source based on factors such as speed, battery charge, and accelerator input.
Engines
Even with the introduction of the hybrid powertrain, Renault will continue to offer the existing petrol engine range for the Duster. The SUV already features a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that delivers a maximum power of 100 hp and peak torque of 160 Nm; this engine comes with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Above that, there is a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that generates 163 hp of power and 280 Nm of torque. It is offered with a six-speed manual and a six-speed wet-clutch DCT gearbox.
Features
The new Duster Hybrid is well-equipped in terms of features. It includes amenities such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument display. The cabin also features a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and dual-zone climate control.
In terms of safety, the SUV includes features like six airbags and a 360-degree camera. Select variants will also offer Level 2 ADAS, which is expected to provide various advanced driver assistance functions.
Renault Duster Hybrid Price
The price of the Renault Duster Hybrid will be revealed at its launch on October 17, 2026. Currently, the company has not disclosed the exact price of the hybrid version. The existing Duster range is priced between ₹10.49 lakh and ₹18.49 lakh (ex-showroom); therefore, the hybrid model is expected to be priced higher than the current entry-level variants.
Competition
The Duster, featuring strong hybrid technology, will compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Since these SUVs already feature hybrid technology, Renault will need to focus not only on power but also on fuel efficiency, features, and pricing to compete effectively in this segment.
