This year, the festival will be celebrated on August 21st. This day is very special for the devotees of Kanha, as it reflects their childhood love and innocence. On this day, people prepare traditional dishes and offer them to their Laddu Gopal with great care and affection.

Many types of dishes are made on this day, but offering Kadhi-rice is considered very important. Have you ever wondered why? Actually, both Kadhi and rice symbolise simplicity and love. Ingredients to make Kadhi:

For Kadhi: 1 cup curd, 1/2 cup gram flour, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/4 tsp cumin powder, a pinch of asafoetida, salt and 2 cups water.

For Pakodas: 1/2 cup gram flour, 1/4 tsp ajwain, salt and water.

For Tadka: 2 tbsp oil, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida, 2-3 dried red chillies, and seven curry leaves.

Method of making:

Make Pakodas: First of all, prepare a thick batter by mixing gram flour with ajwain, salt and some water. Make small pakodas from this batter and fry them in hot oil till they turn golden.

Make Kadhi batter: Now add curd, gram flour, all the spices (turmeric, coriander, cumin, asafoetida) and salt in a large vessel and mix well. Then, add water slowly and prepare a smooth batter, ensuring there are no lumps.

Cook the Kadhi: Cook this batter on a low flame while stirring continuously. When it thickens, turn off the gas.

Add the Tadka: Heat oil in a pan and temper it by adding cumin seeds, asafoetida, dried red chillies and curry leaves.

Mix everything: Now add this tempering to the Kadhi. Then add the pakoras and mix the Kadhi well.

The Bhog is ready: Your delicious Kadhi is prepared. If you want, you can make it even more beautiful by adding green coriander on top.
