Ingredients for Khichdi
Moong dal (split green gram) – 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Rice – 1/2 cup
Salt – to taste
Water – 2 1/2 cups
Ghee – 1 tablespoon
Ingredients for Kadhi
Yoghurt – 1 cup
Ginger-green chilli paste – 1 teaspoon
Gram flour (besan) – 2 tablespoons
Curry leaves – 7-8

Cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Dried red chillies – 2
Salt – to taste
Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Sugar – 1 teaspoon
Water – 2 cups
Ghee or oil – 1 tablespoon
What is the recipe for making Gujarati Kadhi Khichdi?
First, you will need to prepare hot khichdi
Wash the mung dal and rice and soak them for 15-20 minutes. Then heat the ghee in a pressure cooker. Add the turmeric and the soaked rice. Then add salt to taste and water. Cook for three whistles. Finally, lightly mash the khichdi.

Make the curry
Now, whisk the yoghurt and gram flour together in a bowl until well combined. Then add water, turmeric, salt, and sugar, and place the mixture on the stove. Next, heat the ghee in a separate pan, then add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, dried red chillies, and curry leaves to prepare the tempering. Add the tempering to the curry and cook on low heat for 7-8 minutes.

After that, add a spoonful of ghee on top of the hot khichdi and serve it with the flavourful curry. You can also serve it with papad and pickle if you like.
