There are a few months left before IPL teams finalise their plans for the 2026 season, but trade and exit rumours are already spreading. Recently, talks about Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson leaving have gained attention, with the Chennai Super Kings as a possible new team. Now, a social media post says Ravichandran Ashwin, who rejoined CSK last year, has asked the team to release him.

Ashwin’s Short Return to Chennai

Ashwin’s return to the Chennai franchise last year was much talked about since he started his career there. But his return seems to last only one year. Now retired from international cricket, Ashwin is looking for a new challenge.

Ashwin had an inconsistent IPL 2025 season, playing only 9 matches for CSK and taking 7 wickets. He was benched in many games as the team tried younger players. At 38 years old, Ashwin is not the best fit for a team like CSK, which already has many players over 30.

Samson and Possible Trade Talks

If the rumors about Sanju Samson leaving Rajasthan Royals are true, he could be a good option for CSK. As a wicket-keeper batter and captain, Samson may be the right choice to replace MS Dhoni before the 2026 season. Ashwin has also had success with Rajasthan Royals. So, a trade between Ashwin and Samson could work well for both teams, RR and CSK.
