Jobs: As an alarming reflection of increasing unemployment, Rajasthan has seen a deluge of applications for peon roles. Over 24 lakh hopefuls have thrown their hats in the ring to fill 53,749 peon vacancies. From MBA and PhD degree holders to top-of-the-line academically oriented candidates, top-notch applicants are now lining up for menial government jobs. This presents an ominous picture of the employment landscape, where administrative service hopefuls too are shifting to low-ranking jobs for employment security.
Document Applications for Peon Posts
Rajasthan is in the grip of a massive employment crisis with 24,76,000 applicants vying for 53,749 Grade IV posts like peons. The youth with qualifications such as PhD, M.Ed, MBA, and MSc are also among the applicants. The magnitude of this movement has raised general concern over the state of jobs in the state. Not even students of coaching centers in Jaipur like Gopalpura preparing for competitive exams are overlooking these lower-level job openings.
Highly Qualified Candidates Join the Race
The applicant list contains youth such as Kamal Kishore, who possess an MA degree and a B.Ed and an IT degree. It is acceptable, according to him, to join a peon post because greater-level posts still don’t get enough numbers to fill up the seats. Also joining, like MA degree holder Kiran working as a private job holder at a university, is one applicant. She complained of technical errors at the eleventh hour for filling in applications and demanded two days extra when the site collapsed.
Students Ready to Do Any Government Job
Most candidates have expressed that they would not mind even serving water at government offices if that guarantees them a secure government job. Candidates like Tanuja Yadav and Sumitra Chaudhary, who are training for administrative services, are a few of those who also applied for the posts of peons. The willingness shows the desperation of educated youth to obtain any type of government job in a shrinking job market.
Website Crash During Last Application Hours
Owing to the heavy rush of applicants, the official website crashed during the final hours of application. In spite of that, about 1.11 lakh applications were filed in a span of five hours. The technical glitch added further pressure to the already nervous candidates to get the job.
Exam and Unemployment Figures in Rajasthan
The exam for recruitment will be held in eight shifts, according to Bhaghchand Badhal, Secretary of Rajasthan Staff Selection Commission. Results will be normalized. Rajasthan has 18 lakh registered unemployed people as of now, although unofficial figures put the figure at over 30 lakh.
