New Delhi: In the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) exceeded expectations by securing a majority, winning 207 seats. However, the opposition is alleging that the BJP’s victory was a result of electoral rigging. On the other hand, the process of forming a government in West Bengal has now begun. The eyes of the entire nation—including all BJP workers—are now fixed on the question of who will become Bengal’s next Chief Minister.
Today is set to be a very significant day for the state, as the meeting of the BJP Legislative Party is scheduled to take place. Union Minister Amit Shah will attend this meeting as an observer. It is during this very meeting that the name of West Bengal’s next Chief Minister is likely to be announced—a topic that is currently the subject of intense speculation. Several prominent names are currently in the running for the top post.
Suvendu Adhikari’s Name Also in the Race
Suvendu Adhikari has emerged as the most prominent face of the BJP in Bengal at present. Once again, he has secured a victory by contesting against Mamata Banerjee in her own constituency. His political significance, strong command over the party organisation, deep understanding of grassroots realities, and extensive network are the key factors behind his stature.
In the last two Assembly elections, Suvendu Adhikari not only contested against Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee but also emerged victorious. It is precisely because of his willingness to directly challenge the Mamata government that Adhikari is widely regarded as the BJP’s strongest face in the state.
Dilip Ghosh Could Also Become CM
The second name currently circulating in the race for the Chief Minister’s post within the Bharatiya Janata Party is that of Dilip Ghosh. A senior BJP leader, he has previously served as the party’s State President in Bengal. He played a pivotal role in strengthening the BJP’s presence in the state, and he continues to maintain a strong hold within the party organisation. Given these factors, the party could potentially entrust him with the responsibility of becoming Bengal’s new Chief Minister.
Samik Bhattacharya’s Name Also Under Discussion
Samik Bhattacharya, the current State President of the BJP in West Bengal, is another name included in the race for the Chief Minister’s post. It was under his leadership that the party achieved victory in these Assembly elections. He first joined the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) in 1974. He has also previously served as the General Secretary of the BJP in Bengal. Furthermore, he has held positions as a member of the party’s National Executive Committee as well as the State BJP’s Core Committee.
