Earthquake in Russia: A 7.4-magnitude quake was felt near the Kamchatka coast of Russia. There was panic among the people after the earthquake. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre alerted that “dangerous” waves could hit coastal areas up to 300 kilometres from the epicentre. According to the GFZ report, the epicentre of the earthquake was near the eastern coast of Kamchatka. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has warned that dangerous waves could rise in coastal areas up to 300 kilometres (186 miles) from the epicentre.
Immediately after the earthquake, the local administration and disaster management teams were alerted, and people living in coastal areas were advised to move to safe places. Dangerous waves may hit coastal areas. According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred 111 kilometres (69 miles) east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative centre of the Kamchatka region, and at a depth of 39.5 kilometres. The Pacific Tsunami Alert Centre says that dangerous waves can hit the coastal areas of Russia up to 300 kilometres from the epicentre. USGS initially measured the magnitude of the earthquake as 7.5, but later reduced it to 7.4.
China and America warned tsunami.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre of America informed that the effect of the earthquake can be seen in the coastal areas. According to the initial assessment, there is a potential threat of a tsunami in the nearby parts of the Pacific Ocean. The situation remains unclear in remote areas like Hawaii. PTWC stated that it is currently too early to determine whether a tsunami threat exists.
According to local media reports, people emerged from their homes after the earthquake. The administration has alerted people living on the seashore. At the same time, disaster management agencies are constantly monitoring the situation and it has been announced to issue updates every hour.
