In the 30th match of IPL 2025, CSK defeated Lucknow by 5 wickets, securing their second victory of the season. After losing five consecutive matches, CSK is back on track with this win. By defeating Lucknow at their home ground, CSK also avenged last year’s defeat.
In this match, CSK captain MS Dhoni played the role of a match finisher, scoring an unbeaten 26 runs off 11 balls to guide the team to a thrilling victory.
CSK successfully chased down Lucknow’s target of 167 runs with three balls to spare, losing five wickets in the process. This victory marked CSK’s second win in the seventh match of the season. Dhoni was awarded a medal in the play-off after the match.
MS Dhoni Broke 11-Year-Old IPL Record
CSK started strongly while chasing the target of 167 runs set by Lucknow Super Giants. Sheikh Rashid (27) and Rachin Ravindra (37) gave CSK a good start with a 52-run partnership for the first wicket.
But after that, CSK lost 4 wickets while adding just 44 more runs. The team was struggling at 96 runs for 4 wickets.
When half of the CSK team was back in the pavilion at 111 runs, MS Dhoni stepped up and took charge of the innings. Dhoni played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 26 runs from just 11 balls, hitting 4 fours and 1 six. Shivam Dube also supported him well, scoring an unbeaten 43 runs.
Thanks to their efforts, CSK won the match with three balls remaining.
Dhoni Became the Oldest Player to Win Player of the Match in IPL
After the match, Dhoni was given the Player of the Match award. With this, he became the oldest player in IPL history to win this award. Dhoni broke Praveen Tambe’s 11-year-old record.
Dhoni received the award at the age of 43 years and 280 days. Earlier, Praveen Tambe had set the record in 2014 when he won the Player of the Match award against KKR at the age of 42 years and 208 days.

This was Dhoni’s 17th Player of the Match award as a captain. He won this award after a long gap of 2175 days (about 6 years). Before this, Dhoni last received this award in 2019 when he scored 44 runs off 22 balls against Delhi Capitals in Chepauk and made two brilliant stumpings.
Dhoni Created Another Record — 200 Catches in IPL
In the same match against Lucknow Super Giants, Dhoni achieved another big milestone. He became the first player to complete 200 catches behind the wicket in IPL history.
Dhoni reached this record by stumping Ayush Badoni off Rachin Ravindra’s ball. This was his 46th stumping in IPL. Later in the match, Dhoni also made Rishabh Pant’s catch and completed his 200 catches.
