Cyclone Shakti : Beware, Now cyclone Shakti is ready to hit in India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas in Maharashtra and Gujarat due to Cyclone Shakti, which has formed in the Arabian Sea. It will be the first cyclone of this year’s post-monsoon season. Its speed has reached 100 kilometers per hour and it is moving rapidly in a west-southwest direction.

Following the IMD warning, the Maharashtra government has activated disaster management teams. Preparations for possible evacuation and relief measures have begun in coastal districts. The state government has strictly advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.

As per IMD, The severe cyclonic storm Shakhti over northwest & adjoining northeast #Arabian Sea moved nearly westwards with a speed of 13 kmph during last 6 hours and lay centered at 1130 hrs IST of today, the 4th October, 2025 over the same region near about 510 km west of Dwarka.It is likely to move west-southwestwards and reach northwest and adjoining west central Arabian Sea by 5th October. Thereafter, it will recurve and move east-northeastwards from morning of 6th October 2025 and weaken gradually.

Warning for fishermen

The IMD has warned of rough to very rough sea conditions along the Gujarat and North Maharashtra coasts, as well as along the Pakistan coast, until Sunday. Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into any part of the northwest, northeast, and central Arabian Sea until Tuesday (October 8). The name “Shakti” was selected under the Regional Cyclone Naming System, which covers 13 countries: India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Oman, the Maldives, Myanmar, and Thailand. Names are used sequentially from the list of these countries. The name “Shakhti” was suggested by Sri Lanka.
