US President Donald Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social, “Cuba has been dependent on the vast amount of oil and money from Venezuela for many years.” In return, Cuba provided “protection” to Venezuela’s last two dictators, but no more. Trump also wrote this.

Furthermore, Venezuela no longer needs protection from those thugs and extortionists. No more oil or money will be sent to Cuba—zero. I suggest they (Cuba) reach a compromise before it’s too late.

By writing this, Trump fanned the flames of America’s long-standing animosity toward Cuba, a flame that has burned for nearly seven decades. During President Barack Obama’s tenure, attempts were made to douse this fire, but before it could cool down, Trump has rekindled it.

According to a BBC report, Cuba’s good relations with Russia and China are precisely what the US dislikes. Trump has no ties with Russia and feels threatened by China, so he wants to eliminate Chinese influence from the western hemisphere.
