Know why there are more earthquakes in Afghanistan
You must be wondering why there are so many earthquakes in Afghanistan. According to the US Geological Survey, on August 31, at 11:45 pm, an earthquake of 6.0 magnitude struck the eastern part of Afghanistan. The epicentre of the earthquake was 27 kilometres away and at a depth of 8 kilometres.
Afghanistan is very sensitive to earthquakes, as it is located above many fault lines. The Indian and Eurasian plates meet here. The mountainous terrain of eastern Afghanistan is also vulnerable to landslides, making rescue operations difficult in case of an emergency.
