Oommen Chandy Health Insurance Scheme: Major boost in health insurance sector. The Oommen Chandy health insurance scheme was introduced in the state budget by the VD Satheesan administration. The Finance Minister, VD Satheesan, declared an insurance coverage of Rs. 25 lakh annually for each family, with an initial allocation of Rs. 10 crore. This scheme was a significant aspect of the UDF government’s electoral pledges.
Courses for caregiver certification will be launched in medical facilities. State employees’ Dearness Allowance and pensioners’ Dearness Relief will be paid continuously. Medi-CEP will undergo modifications. VD Satheesan, who serves as both the Finance Minister and announced a 50 percent reduction in quarterly taxes for private buses during his budget speech.
VD Satheesan specified that the rubber’s support price would be raised from Rs. 200 to Rs. 250. A budget of 102 crore has been set aside for dairy development, and new storage facilities for coconuts will be established. In the state budget, the Finance Minister outlined a comprehensive plan for the cashew industry.

Special incentives will be introduced for workers in the pottery manufacturing industry in the state. The Finance Minister also mentioned in the budget address that the daily milk production in the state would be boosted to one crore liters within three years, with excess milk being processed into value-added products.
Each family will receive medical treatment worth up to Rs 25 lakh
In the budget, an initial amount of Rs 10 crore has been set aside for the “Oommen Chandy Health Insurance Scheme” by the government. This initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden of costly medical treatments for the residents of the state. Furthermore, the establishment of the “Kerala Health and Life Sciences City” has been announced, with an investment of Rs 100 crore, to develop Kerala into a center for medical care and research.
Special program for young individuals and new businesses
A new initiative has been introduced by the government to support budding entrepreneurs. The “Gen-G Entrepreneur” program will offer financial aid, interest-free loans, grants, and technical assistance to youth. An initial budget of ₹50 crore has been earmarked for this scheme. The government anticipates that this will generate fresh job prospects and assist young people in launching their own ventures.
