WhatsApp Testing a New Feature To Mute: WhatsApp constantly updates its messaging platform for the sake of the users in group chats. One of the latest features undergoing beta testing for Android WhatsApp users is muting notifications from @everyone mentions in group chats, which is especially for those people who really get infuriated by 281 notifications caused by just one mention thrown in by others in the group.

What Is An @Everyone Mention

An inclusion in a WhatsApp Group Chat simply alerts all members in one go. Probably great in cases of urgent announcements, but annoying most of the time. Given that there’d be group members who had rather fondly perfected the art of making @Everyone calls to announce things quite light and trivial, notifications would come racking up these days without even bothering whether the group is really mute or not.

The New Mute Option

According to reports, WhatsApp is working on a new mute option known as Mute Everyone Mentions under group notification settings. This is said to be turned off by default; thus, the app users have the power to turn it on anytime they want to mute @everyone mentions. Hence, group users would have the option to choose which notifications they’d want to receive.
