There is already tremendous excitement for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 series, and the latest leaks suggest that the company is preparing one of its biggest updates to the smartphone in years. It is believed that for the first time ever, Apple will launch its devices in stages, unveiling its flagship iphone 18 pro models in September 2026, and its regular iPhone 18 models several months later in early 2027. Alongside this staggered launch, significant improvements in performance, battery life and cameras are being rumored.
Staggered Launch
It has been revealed recently that Apple intends to release the iPhone 18 Pro and the iphone 18 pro max in September 2026, with its more budget friendly model, the iPhone 18 potentially launching months later, during the spring of 2027. This will be a substantial departure for Apple, which has traditionally always launched its full lineup of iPhones at the same time of the year. Apple’s intent could be to create a focal point of its more premium devices initially and then follow up later in the year with a sales boost for the less expensive model.
2nm A20 Pro chip
The most significant advancement could come with Apple’s new A20 Pro processor. Designed and manufactured by TSMC using its latest 2nm manufacturing process, it is being reported that this new chip will have 15% better performance and use significantly less power. These power savings are expected to allow the iPhone 18 Pro to have dramatically increased battery life as well as improved thermal efficiency. The A20 Pro is also expected to lead to a faster overall experience and improved efficiency in Apple Intelligence features. It is rumored that along with a new chip, Apple will also upgrade RAM to 12GB on all iPhone 18 models, which would also contribute to the speed of future Apple Intelligence features.
New Camera Tech
Another of Apple’s flagship innovations expected on the iPhone 18 Pro models is its variable aperture system. This feature has the potential to provide smartphone photographers with the ability to adjust the physical opening of the lens as the camera takes the shot. This could result in greater depth of field on portraits for more natural bokeh, and more sharpness in landscape shots, a feature that Android flagships have used for several years now. This will be the first implementation on an iPhone, though only on the more premium models.
Smaller Dynamic Island
On the iPhone 18 Pro models it is thought that the dynamic island is going to get considerably smaller, with reports indicating that Apple is moving parts of the face ID technology under the screen, making the dynamic island on the display roughly 35% smaller. Whilst the island may not be fully disappeared it would mean users can get more screen real estate while also achieving a cleaner design language on the front of the device. Some tech analysts believe an under display Face ID system will be held back for an anniversary iPhone, possibly 10 years in the future.
Bigger Battery
The biggest advancement in battery life on an iPhone could come on the iPhone 18 Pro models. There is an expectation that Apple will install batteries of a higher capacity ranging from 5100mAh to 5200mAh in the iPhone 18 Pro Max, making this one of the largest batteries to ever appear in an iPhone. Coupled with the 2nm chip with lower power requirements, this would give the premium model the highest battery life the iPhone has ever had, and it is estimated by some, that even the moderate user will get over 2 days of usage out of the one charge.
Dark Cherry Color option
The iPhone 18 models may not be seeing a significant redesign, but Apple could be launching with some fresh new colors in its arsenal. The standout is likely to be a Dark Cherry shade that is expected to replace some of the existing colors in the current iPhone 17 series. As I mentioned previously there is not much expected in terms of design change but these color options would undoubtedly add a new distinctiveness to Apple’s flagship models.
Expected pricing
According to recent leaks, the iPhone 18 Pro model will be priced in India somewhere between 1,34,900 and 1,39,900. TheiPhone 18 Pro Max is rumored to have a price point of between 1,49,900 and 1,59,900. The iPhone 18 standard model is rumored to cost less than either of the iPhone 18 Pro models at around 79,999- 89,999. These figures are based on leaks and the actual price will differ, as they will also depend on storage configurations and any local taxes on release.
Final Thoughts
Based on all the leaks so far, it is expected that the iPhone 18 series could be one of the most significant hardware updates Apple has delivered in a while. If these leaks turn out to be true, both the iPhone 18 Pro models and the regular iPhone 18 will offer some compelling updates such as the new 2nm processor, variable aperture camera, improved batteries, and the reduction in the size of the Dynamic Island. The new Pro models could prove to be the most powerful and efficient iPhones yet.
