iPhone 17 vs iPhone 16, iPhone 15, and iPhone 14: If your old iPhone is starting to struggle, the iPhone 17 could be the refresh you have been waiting for. The latest model from Apple brings in a number of long-overdue upgrades that make the device more tempting than it has been in ages: the base storage finally jumps to 256GB, and the smoother 120Hz display is now standard rather than the preserve of Pro models. But one very important question remains: is the iPhone 17 a real leap from the iPhone 14, 15, or 16?

At first glance, the iPhone 17 bears a great deal of resemblance to its predecessor, the iPhone 16, but small changes make a difference. For one, the display now supports a refresh rate of 1–120Hz for fluid scrolling and always-on display features. The brighter 3,000-nit display with anti-reflective coating makes outdoor viewing better, and the new Ceramic Shield 2 amplifies scratch resistance.
Then there are camera upgrades: a 48MP ultrawide sensor and an 18MP front camera feature sharper photos, with improved framing around selfies through Center Stage. The battery life has been extended by as much as 8 hours for video playback, with faster 40W charging thrown in.
iPhone 17 vs iPhone 15
The iPhone 15 and 17 share much of the same DNA, but the iPhone 17 gains a few smart additions: a larger 6.3-inch display with slimmer bezels, upgraded cameras, and the addition of the customizable Action button and Camera Control button.
But most notably, Apple Intelligence, only available starting from the iPhone 17 series onwards, opens up AI-powered writing, image editing, and Live Translation tools. These features, while not a dramatic hardware leap, make the iPhone 17 more future-ready.
iPhone 17 vs iPhone 14
For those still on the iPhone 14, the jump to the 17 is a lot bigger. You jump from Lightning to USB-C, add Dynamic Island for better multitasking, and see a big jump in camera quality-from 12MP to 48MP sensors across both rear lenses.
Front camera improves with increased resolution-18MP-and the Center Stage feature. If the limitations of the cable are the reason for an upgrade, or if you want a brighter, faster, and smarter experience, then the 17 is hands down a winner.
